Hello everyone, I'm Brandon.
I am 35 and a mechanic. In have always been interested in strength since I was a kid. I remember watching world's on ESPN religiously with my sister when Magnus competed. We were always very active as children, until 1994 when our house got a swamp cooler and a PlayStation. About 10 years ago I got the itch to really try to get strong. My journey started on bodybuilding.com. I got a good foundation on what I did and didn't like from there but didn't see any progress. I found a book called "Z last training book you'll ever need"it's a great book and I went from 135 lbs deadlift 355 with it. I want to take training more seriously this year and will post a lot here to help keep myself accountable. Thanks all.

hi just joined and signed up for the templates last night!

little background, I started back in 2008 getting back to gym just to get healthy again. Found myself at 230lbs and my back was so bad I could barely stand to wash the dishes or go get the mail. So just started the basic cardio and machines. It wasn't too long before I discovered I liked picking up heavy things and within a couple of years I was signing up for my first powerlifting meet. In the time since I've gotten down to 160lbs. Slowly, as I soon discovered I enjoyed seeing the weights go up it was ok if the scale was slow to move.

Been sticking with it for a bit now at our gym but been looking sideways at strongman. We have a friend at our ymca who competes and with his help we've gotten some strongman friendly gear. He's competing in Raleigh on May 26th and I figured...you know, why not do it with him.

I have access to a 72lb Rogue log, variety of tires, Prowler style sled, and soon a trap bar and farmer's handles. I've been using the Spud Traveling handles in meantime and broke out my fat grips again so I can try to simulate Axle press. Unfortunatley our only keg is 225lb, a bit out of my range. But I do have a 50lb sandbag here at home I can practice with.

So will see :D

Hi, I'm Adam, I've been following the Facebook group pretty closely since it's inception and just now got around to joining in on the forum.

I am a classically trained musician and work in music administration in the Chicago area. I am not a serious strongman competitor by any means, but I love training this way and it definitely changed how I view myself. I lifted for years in a bodybuilding gym and always wanted to that, but I sucked at dieting, so I always felt bad about myself. I switched over to strongman and have never looked back.

I've been suffering through some injury issues, but finally have made a ton of progress in the gym and set some all time PR's, so I am hoping to compete again in the very near future, even if it's just going and placing last in a novice division!

Hey Misty, thanks for the introduction that's awesome to hear about you doing your first comp!

The key is to worry about what implements you do have and how they can be utilized and be smart about what you don't and how it can be improvised.

There is a ton of cross over in between events feel free to ask questions and In the Starting Strongman training sub forum and I'll be glad to help.

Hey Adam,

Just signing up is a victory in itself.

The best part about training way more than placing in a contest, etc is how it can help with how we view ourselves. I remember how much it helped me with that and am forever thankful.

Last or first as long as you improved and had fun in the process you are growing.

Hi I'm Kodee I'm 22 and I've been infatuated with strongman ever since I first started working out in 7th/8th grade. I'd like to get into some comps as soon as possible but I just moved out on my own and I think this year is going to be centered around getting life together. But next hopefully I can get into it when I have a little more freedom and things are a little more settled.

My ultimate goal is to buy a gym and get strongman and power lifting into my community and get the kids and high schoolers interested in physical fitness.

Hi, I'm Juraj, 18 years old from Croatia. After doing some bro lifting in the past I finally got the urge to get strong earlier this year. So I took up powerlifting, learning programming and proper form pretty much just by watching youtube and filming myself lift.

But as you may know, doing the main 3 lifts gets boring, and at 6'3 seeing short guys outbench you can also be pretty annoying. That's how I fell in love with strongman. Now the biggest problem I have is that there are no gyms around with all the standard strongman equipment, however I don't need those to get strong. My goals are to get as strong as possible in pressing stuff over my head, carrying big stuff around, squatting and deadlifting. I know there's one gym across town that has a yoke and a log, and I plan on joining it as soon as I get my driver's licence.

I've been strength training for about 7 months now. My best lifts are a 440lbs deadlift, 315lbs squat and a 225lbs bench and push press.
